Early Years Foundation Stage

We strive to ensure that the Early Years at Wells Primary School provides the best start to a child's education. Pupils who join us in the Nursery and in Reception settle quickly and enjoy coming to school. We are very fortunate to have highly qualified teaching staff in both our Nursery and Reception settings. The children build strong relationships with their teachers due to the high adult to child ratios.

Our carefully planned induction programme helps children to settle quickly. We offer home visits for pupils new to the school and 'Stay and Play' sessions before the start date so that children can become familiar with the environment and their teachers.

We are delighted that we have recently been awarded the Early Years Quality Mark which validates the high quality of provision in our Nursery and Reception classes. We provide the children with challenging learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Since the school's last Ofsted inspection, we have refurbished both the Nursery and Reception settings. They are very well-equipped with a variety of toys and learning apparatus. Both settings have designated outdoor areas to enable pupils to spend as much time outside as they do indoors.

Children in both Reception and Nursery achieve very well; we attribute this to excellent teaching, high staff to pupil ratios and high expectations. Our end of Early Years results compare favourably with both local and national data.

Communication with parents and carers is strong as we believe that it is crucial to build effective partnerships as soon as a child joins the school. Parents and carers are able to come into school in the mornings to settle their children, teachers and other staff are always available to check on their child's progress and parents and carers are informed on a weekly basis about the learning taking place.

If you would like to visit our Nursery or Reception classes, please contact the school office.

"Every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfill their potential. A child’s experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right, and it provides the foundation for children to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up. When parents choose to use early years services, they want to know the provision will keep their children safe and help them to learn and thrive. The Early Years Foundation Stage is the framework that provides that assurance.” www.early-education.org.uk
